Records are made to be broken, and that’s just what the counselors and adventure partners from the Seeds of Peace Camp in Portland, Maine, are setting out to do. And they’re gonna’ do it on A6 Razor Scooters!
Celebrating its 25th year in 2018, Seeds of Peace (SOP) is an organization that brings teachers and students from areas of conflict to its dedicated camp in Maine, hoping to “inspire and cultivate new generations of global leaders in communities divided by conflict by equipping exceptional youth and educators with the sills and relationships they need to accelerate social, economic, and political changes essential for peace.”. Campers are usually between the ages of 14-16 and the camp currently boasts 7,000 graduates from all over the world. Graduates are now working for change in 27 countries and have launched more than 40 peacebuilding initiatives.
Bringing peace around the world sounds like a pretty major undertaking, but if anyone can do it, the SOP kids can! These campers are some of the best and brightest on our planet, having participated in a 6-month application process and demonstrated leadership skills, proficiency in local politics, and general knowledge, and sometimes even been nominated by their country’s government.
We think they’re up for the challenge, and what better way to get motivated than to break a Guinness World Record? Yes, a team of 25 SOP counselors (current and former), campers, friends, and family members is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the greatest distance travel on a scooter in 24 hours. This group of inspirational athletes will be training from August 13-16 and taking on the world record challenge from August 17-18. And they’ll be riding, what else?, 40 A6 Razor Scooters donated specifically for the event.
Calling themselves Wheeling for the World (or W4W), the group is a “kick-scooting team made up of a diverse group of 25 passionate Seeds Of Peace and Maine community members, aiming to exemplify the power of cross-cultural collaboration as a way to challenge and break a World Record.”
The current record for greatest distance traveled on a scooter in 24 hours is 334 miles, which may sound pretty daunting, but not to worry. The counselors from Seeds of Peace Camp have broken a Guinness World Record before! They’re shooting for 348 miles, and our money’s on them for the win, especially because they’ll all be riding Razors!
Razor’s A6 Kick Scooter is designed for older, taller riders, with 42” extra-tall handlebars and an extra-long deck. A sturdy aluminum frame and super-sized urethane wheels hold riders ages 8 and up, up to 220 pounds.
If you happen to be or know a SOP community member, it’s not too late to join the team! The W4W crew has three spots left for passionate athletes ages 16-18. Learn more about joining the team here.
If you’re rooting for W4W like we are, be sure to follow their attempt, beginning on August 17, at www.wheelingfortheworld.org or an Instagram and Facebook at WheelingForTheWorld.
