Get Heart Healthy! 10 Nutritious Snack Ideas Your Kids Will LOVE!

February is National Hearth Health Month! In addition to monitoring and controlling high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol and not smoking, the Center for Disease Control also recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of exercise per week and kids ages 6 and up move their bodies for an hour every day. Yup, unfortunately higher rates of obesity and increased blood pressure is putting kids at risk for heart disease, too.

In addition to getting plenty of exercise on their Razor scooters, cutting back on unhealthy foods, particularly those high in sodium, trans-fat, saturated fat, and added sugar is a great way to help your kids be Heart Healthy, and Razor is here to help! Celebrate Heart Health month with these delicious, nutritious snack ideas even the pickiest kids will love!

  1. Cereal!

Cereals low in sugar and high in grains are a great healthy snack anytime. Serve with milk at home or dry for a simple snack-on-the-go.

  1. Dipped Fruit!

Sliced apples, bananas, and strawberries are way more fun when they’re dipped in flavored yogurt (non-fat, of course).

  1. Cheese Tray!

Get all fancy on your family with a plate of sliced cheeses. Use small cookie cutters to create cute shapes (your kids can help!) and don’t forget the low-fat string cheese.

  1. Veggie Sticks!

Slice up those carrots, celery, bell peppers, and cucumbers, serve ‘em with low-fat plain yogurt or hummus, and watch ‘em disappear!

  1. Pack Some Pita!

Speaking of hummus, pita and hummus are perfect for a quick plant-based, protein boost! If your kids aren’t down with pita, low-salt tortilla chips are just fine, too.

  1. Trail Mix!

Old school trail mix is a classic kid snack. Combine nuts, raisins, dry cereal, and low-fat pretzels for a healthy mix that’ll make your kids smile.

  1. Popcorn!

Skip the butter and salt and introduce your kids to the fluffy fresh taste of air-popped popcorn!

  1. Hard-boiled Eggs!

Eggs get a bad rap, but, in fact, they contain heart-healthy omega-3 fats. And kids love them! Serve no more than seven a week and you’ve got yourself a yummy, portable snack.

  1. Fruitsicles!

Have some fun making this healthy snack together! Simply blend low-fat yogurt, frozen berries, a banana, and a bit of juice until smooth. Pour into a popsicle form and freeze for a delicious treat!

  1. Kababs!

Skip the finger foods and skewer those healthy treats, instead! Alternate fruit slices, grapes, and cheese squares on a kid-safe wooden skewer and watch your swashbucklers devour their snack.
