Razor Share Launches in Long Beach – A Better Ride!
According to an August 7, 2018 article in the Washington Post, Long Beach, CA, has more nice days (days with moderately warm temperatures, at least partial sunshine, a light breeze, low humidity, and no precipitation) than any other city in the United States.
Where better to launch Razor Share, our first electric scooter ride share program? Yup, as of August 3, residents and visitors to sunny Long Beach can borrow an electric Razor scooter to ride to work, around town, or just for fun.
Razor Share works much like Long Beach’s popular bike share program. Using the Razor Share app, riders who are 18 years old with a valid driver’s license can check the availability of Razor’s electric scooters at various drop sites around town and activate the scooter they want when they get there. Riders can even request a helmet (requests must be received 24 hours prior to scooter rental) – it’s the law, after all.
The program launched with 150 electric scooters and a special offer – the first three rides are free! Riders can scoot three times, for up to 15 minutes each, for free. After that, each minute costs just .15 cents. Once you’ve used your free rides, there’s a $1 activation charge per ride and a .15 cent per minute charge. When you’re done, simply return the scooter to any drop zone in the city.
The pilot program, the city’s first, is slated to run through the end of October, when the city will assess its viability. Razor has worked proactively with the city to alleviate some of the issues experienced with electric scooter share programs in other cities. We’re offering on-demand ground support to help riders with problems and to make sure all scooters are in tip top shape each evening. Our team on the ground will also work to quickly return misplaced scooters to drop zones – scooters left lying on sidewalks and in the streets have been an issue in other cities.
Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia has been enthusiastic about the program. In a July 23 Tweet, the Mayor said, “Over the next few weeks you will begin to see electric scooters in Long Beach. Unlike many cities where scooter companies have come in and begun operating without city permits or a regulatory framework – we’ve been working to create a model program with the scooter companies”. With zero emissions, electric scooters are also in total alignment with Long Beach’s many green initiatives.
And who better to partner with than Razor? To date, we’ve sold more than 34 million scooters, including 13 million e-scooters. Our Razor Share scooters are custom designed to provide more comfort, safety, and fun for adult riders, while withstanding the wear and tear of heavy daily use. Our scooters have UL-compliant batteries, cushy front air tires, a wide deck big enough for two feet side-by-side, and a rigid steel frame designed to best handle a shared service.
Whether you live in the LBC or you’re planning a trip to the Golden State, be sure to give Razor Share a go! Razor is a Better Ride!
